Like every new blog that has its first entry, I must first say "hello and welcome."
For some reason, I wanted to give myself more work to do and I pitched doing a blog to let people in the community know what kind of active events are going on in the Sandusky area or maybe what they had missed. As much as people, especially my two sons, think, I am not all-knowing and would appreciate any support in the way of an e-mail, fax or phone call of upcoming events you think our community should know about. Anything from 5Ks to fun runs to volleyball tournaments, please let me know...
I am by no means a fitness expert or trainer. I just like to run, bike, canoe/kayak and play sports and they are more fun when you are able to get other people involved.
This past week Jen Galloway organized a local run to pay tribute to the victims from Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, CT. Over 20 runners participated in their choice of 5K/10K/Half Marathon with online registration fees going to Sandy Hook. Snowy roads and 20 degree temperatures didn't keep anyone, including me, from having a good time. Photos are above. I will keep you posted of upcoming races I hear about and when the 2013 calendar for the Firelands Area Runners Club is posted HERE.
And speaking of good causes, this year's Freezin' for a Reason Polar Plunge had a great turnout at the Thirsty Pony this past Saturday. More than $30,000 was raised for Special Olympics of Ohio. Read more about that HERE.
