How does a triathlon sound? Yeah, it scares me too. But there is a "not your average" triathlon coming up in nearby Maumee this May.
The 28th Annual Maumee Valley Tri-Adventure Race is on Saturday, May 18, and includes a 36-mile bike, 6-mile canoe/kayak paddle and an 8-mile hike. One rule of the hike is you have to carry a pack that equals 20% of your body weight. If you aren't up for all three components of the race you can bring a teammate or two. And the registration is cheap too.
A standard triathlon is also coming up this July 20 at the White Star Quarry, find out more HERE. This race includes a 750 meter swim, 12.4 mile bike and a 5k trail run.
If you're looking for a 30 minute drive west for a run (or you could bike from Clyde), the Fremont Elite Runners have a website and calendar HERE. A couple of their events in the near future are an indoor 10k this Sunday, (entry form below) and there is a Melt the Ice 5k coming up Saturday, March 23.
And speaking of 5k/10k's...one of the best ones around is on Kelleys Island on June 9. This year the Kelleys Island Brewery is hosting a weekend of events in memory of Chris Smith who died in a car crash on the same day as last year's race. A portion of the proceeds from the race will also go to the Chris Smith Memorial Scholarship. Make a weekend of it and camp out at Kelleys Island State Park.
I'll keep a running calendar below and add to it as the events come up or you all send me the information.
