FIT CHALLENGE: Collins survives her first jog

Sep 26, 2012

This past week has been a blur. Lots of markdowns at work. Setting up Halloween product and starting the setup of *shudder* Christmas stuff. Its been interesting, to say the least.

In the gym I've started a new program, on top of my normal workouts with Patrick Carmean, I've decided to learn to run/jog. My back has been handling the little bit I've attempted so I'm going to keep going until it says no more. My new program is "c2 5k" I found it on Pinterest, not going to lie here, I'm obsessed with that website. I could spend hours on it.

Anywho, "c25k" is a program to take couch potatoes and turn them into 5k runners in, about nine weeks. I just finished week one, which is three days a week doing a "brisk" five-minute walk and then doing a 90-second walk, to a 60-second jog. For 20 minutes.  I did that Monday, Wednesday and Friday this past week. I start week two Sept. 24, which is, a 90-second jog with a two-minute walk for 20 minutes after the five-minute warm-up of course!

I'm loving the feeling I get from jogging. Coated in sweat when I walk out, all pumped up and ready to go! Its like an adrenaline high that I never expected, especially after my first attempt, where I fully expected to faceplant in the treadmill and get some ugly road rash. Luckily though, all that happened was I thrashed my arms too much and caught my headphone wire with my elbow and yanked it out of the jack a few times, and I felt like I was going to puke. I made it though, and no cookies were tossed.

On Pinterest I found a link that tells about different kinds of marathons. Did you know they have a Twinkie run? At the mile marks they have tables covered with Twinkies that you're supposed to eat while you run. Um, yes?! There's also a wine run! Same thing, but with wine! I'm thinking these are counter productive to my goal, but its for a good cause and it comes with a T-shirt! And we all know I love my freebies!

Seriously though, I found one called the color run. Where the runners wear a white and as they hit the mile marker they are showered with colored powders. The more miles, the more colorful you get. That sounds like a good time to me. Next year I want to be in it. It'd be nice to get a group of people to run with me. I don't care how long it takes us to complete it, I just want to be able to say that I did it.

Well, I'm out of here for now. I need to get to the gym and then clean this house. Beautiful fall day. Let's fill it with dance music and Mr. Clean magic erasers!
