Chrislip focuses on swimming as her Hawaii trip approaches

This past week has been AWESOME. I have incorporated swimming laps into my workout routine. I must say the first time I did laps with my YMCA personal trainer Joyce Niedzwiecki, I had a hard time catching my breath.

I think I was trying to race and wasn’t concentrating on my stroke. From this first attempt I went on to 60 minutes of water aerobics, plus 10 (50-meter) laps.

I picked up a pair of goggles and they came in a pack with fins and swim gloves. I was a little leery of the fins, but have seen others use them so thought I’d give it a try. Wow what a difference. You have to learn how to kick differently, less movement and really only from the knee down. I have slowed my pace, although with the fins on it is much faster, and I am concentrating on longer strokes with deep full breaths.

Just two days later, I was able to do 60 minutes of water aerobics followed by 15 laps( up by five). Thirty laps is my next goal.

Why am I so focused on swimming? Well it is October, which means I only have two months before surfer girl takes on the big waves. Game on!!

On a side note, it was fun to see my trainer a little stiff after a 30-minute sculpt class followed by 60-minute boot camp she taught. Yes my friends I attended both and then showed up the next morning for weight training.

Sorry Joyce! Just brought back memories of the first few weeks when I traveled with Bengay, ready to apply after my beatings, err ...  I mean training sessions. You know you’re in the FIT Challenge when walking after a training session is a challenge!

Way to go! As a person who swam for most of my life I know how hard of a workout it is. People think it's easier because you're in the water, but it's one of the hardest workouts you can do. Keep it up!
