Where are you GOing this summer?

I often hear the line 'There's nothing to do around here!' While you think that may be true, I beg to differ. There is SO much to do around Sandusky especially in the summertime! If you are bored on the shores of Lake Erie, it's your own fault.

Let's look at this geographically, shall we? Even if you refuse to admit Sandusky is a happening place, we are a quick drive away from Cleveland or Toledo. Both of those cities have baseball teams, the Toledo Mud Hens and the Cleveland Indians - the perfect American summer pastime! Go check out a game, watch some fireworks, eat a veggie dog.  If sports bore you, go check out a park. I've already told you about Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Cleveland Metroparks also has a slew of summer programming. Toledo boasts the Oak Openings Preserve Metropark. Check back in a couple weeks for a full blog dedicated to the diverse ecosystem and wildlife that call that park home. Both of these cities also have zoos! The Toledo Zoo currently has a baby elephant- a favorite of my 2 year old niece.

Still not convinced that the Lake Erie shores offer loads of things to do? I think Jason Werling and his sons might take offense to that statement. They are Lapping Lake Erie this summer! How fun does that sound? Check out Jason's blog as he writes daily from the road. After reading that, if your still not convinced Lake Erie rules my advice is to try for somewhere green. Ohio boasts many state parks and some of them have awesome lodges, golf courses, and tasty food. You don't have to be outdoorsy to take a weekend getaway at a park!

I was on Sandusky Register's 'Between the Lines' this past Friday talking about all the things there are to do in the Erie MetroParks this summer. There's more than I can fit on this page so make sure to check out our website and click the 'Programs' tab for a complete listing! Summer Nature Camps are filling up fast and our kick-off Root Beer Float paddle program was a hit despite the cool weather last week! New this summer, we are featuring adult workshops on a variety of topics like wildcrafting herbs, soap making, the art of fishing lures and pioneer days! Also featured on the video blog talking about summer programming was Victoria Kurt, the Sandusky Recreation Program  Supervisor. You can find her summer schedule HERE.

Nothing to do this summer? No more excuses-just get out and GO!
